Lieven L. Litaer is a native of Belgium and grew up in Germany. He spoke four languages as a teenager - he now speaks nine: German, English, Dutch, French, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, Egyptian and of course Klingon. Through his interest in Star Trek and his penchant for languages, he learned Klingon in 1995 and quickly became a member of the official Klingon Language Institute (KLI) in the USA. He worked there as a beginners' supervisor in 2001, enabling many interested people to get started with Klingon. In 2019 he founded the German Klingon Institute.
His popularity increased enormously from 2011 onwards through his YouTube channel. For many years, Lieven L. Litaer has been giving lectures and readings at company events, universities, public and private events and conventions. He is also the keynote speaker at the world's largest Klingon meeting called “qepHom” in Saarbrücken.
Lieven is active in many small and large projects, including the opening credits for a famous German children show named Die Sendung mit der Maus (The show with the mouse) translated and recorded in Klingon. Other projects include a Klingon opera, Klingon rock music, various Internet portals and websites and much more. In 2017, he created the Klingon subtitles for a science fiction series for a world-renowned media company.
